Sakura Matsuri, the Garden's annual cherry blossom festival, celebrates Japanese culture with a rich program of events.

How to Have a Great Festival: Tips & Rules

Sakura Matsuri days are the Garden’s busiest. Be prepared.

  1. New for 2019: A ticket is required for every entry. Purchase or reserve advance tickets. (Members & partners: See below for details on reserving your tickets.)
  2. Capacity is limited and we expect to sell out. Note: Advance tickets have sold out in some ticket categories. A limited number of tickets may be available on event days. To comply with safety regulations we will halt ticket sales if we reach maximum capacity. Purchase tickets in advance to ensure entry.
  3. A map showing Flatbush Avenue entrance near B/Q trains, Washington Avenue Entrance near 2/3/4/5 trains.
  4. Check your tickets. Use the entrance specified on your order (see map). Printed tickets help the lines move quickly; mobile tickets are fine too.
  5. Bring your ID. Members with free tickets must also show their BBG member card to enter. Corporate and Academic members, Cool Culture participants, and BASE teachers and students must present program ID with free ticket to enter. You must be 21 or over to buy alcohol.
  6. Travel light. All bags and packages will be searched by Security. Be prepared to wait in line for bag check.
  7. Take public transportation. Parking nearby is very limited and gridlock is likely. Avoid the Eastern Parkway station, which is under construction. Travel directions
  8. Avoid peak attendance. Come early in the day or later in the afternoon.
  9. Find your lane. Each entrance has separate lanes for individuals with paid tickets, with member or partner tickets, or who need to purchase tickets.
  10. No outside food or beverages. Exceptions are bottled water, baby bottles, and pocket snacks for individuals with dietary restrictions. A substantial menu of food and drink will be available at stations throughout the Garden.
  11. Help protect our plant collections. During the festival, some areas of the Garden are closed. Please do not pick flowers, climb trees, or walk in the planted beds. Folding chairs are not permitted.
  12. Cosplayers take note: Real or realistic weapons, oversized props, or props made of hard materials (e.g., wood, Plexiglas, metal) will not be allowed inside the Garden. Security reserves the right to refuse admission of any potentially hazardous props.
  13. Leave the wheels at home. Scooters and bikes are not permitted in the Garden, and bike racks located at each entrance fill up early. Due to festival crowds, avoid bringing a stroller.
  14. No pets. Service dogs must be under control per ADA guidelines.
  15. Drones, tripods, and commercial photography are not allowed. Photos for personal use and social sharing encouraged! See policy at bbg.org/photography.
