Members’ Sunset Picnic Nights Dos and Don’ts

BBG members have the exclusive opportunity to picnic on the softest, greenest grass in Brooklyn during Members’ Sunset Picnic Nights. Please note that these special evenings are the only times outside food and picnic blankets are permitted in the Garden.

To ensure that everyone has a safe and happy evening—including BBG’s living collections—here are some tips for your next Picnic Night visit:

Do:

  • Picnic in designated picnic areas—the lawns of Cherry Esplanade, Lily Pool Terrace, and the Water Garden.
  • Bring in your own food and drink, or use your member’s discount to purchase a meal at the Yellow Magnolia Canteen or at the Yellow Magnolia Café (first come, first served, with last seating at 7:30 p.m.).
  • Discover and learn alongside your child (unattended children will be planted!).
  • Be respectful and considerate of both plants and fellow members (no running or horseplay, please).
  • Keep shoes and shirts on when enjoying the Garden.
  • Picnic between 6 and 8:30 p.m. on designated picnic nights (June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, August 1, August 15, and September 5, 2018).
  • Keep the Garden clean—deposit trash and recyclables in designated receptacles.
  • Bring a friend! Guest passes are accepted during Members’ Sunset Picnic Nights.
  • Share your picnic pictures with the tag #brooklynbotanicmember—your pictures may be featured online in BBG’s Members’ Nights Photo Gallery!

Don’t:

  • Pick flowers or other plant material.
  • Bring lawn chairs or sporting equipment (balls, Frisbees, scooters, etc.).
  • Solicit or distribute flyers to Garden guests.
  • Climb trees or rocks.
  • Bring your pets.
  • Smoke.
