Urban Advantage Backpack Trips
Urban Advantage middle and elementary school teachers and UA parent coordinators can use a UA class trip or community trip voucher to register for a curated experience. We provide suggested itineraries along with a backpack for each participant—including journals, pencils, hand lenses, and supplies to pot up a plant for each student back at school—enabling you to lead a structured field trip for your students and families.
Choose between two themes:
- Exploring the Caribbean in Brooklyn: Feel as if you've traveled to the Caribbean as you explore tropical plants in the Steinhardt Conservatory. You will think about how plants travel, how important plants are to us, and how plants can evoke strong memories and create lasting connections within communities.
- The Power of Trees: Do you know you live in an urban forest? As you adventure through the Native Flora Garden and the Discovery Garden you will think about how vital trees are in our urban ecosystem and how you can become a tree steward!
Backpack Trips last about 90 minutes; teachers will select an arrival time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and an arrival entrance. Groups arriving by bus should select 455 Flatbush Avenue; groups coming by foot may choose 455 Flatbush Avenue, 150 Eastern Parkway, or 990 Washington Avenue. Registration closes two weeks in advance of trip dates.
