Toast pint-sized beauty at Small Scale, a narrated dinner dedicated to the high arts of Japanese gastronomy and horticulture.
Enjoy a five-course meal of small plates featuring unusual micro-vegetables transformed into miniature edible works of art by Bushwick's Momo Sushi Shack (dubbed by London’s Financial Times “the most exciting restaurant to open in New York City in recent months") and paired with premium sake. Restaurateur Phillip Gilmour and Chef Makoto Suzuki of Momo Sushi Shack and sake expert Hiromi Iuchi of Kuramoto U.S. will introduce each course and the corresponding sake pairing.
Renowned choreographer Momo Suzuki will also present a program with the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York. A reception will follow, with an open bar for sake and Sapporo beer and featuring DJ Saiko Mikan spinning '60s-era Japanese pop and '90s Shibuya-kei.
Small Scale kicks off the Garden’s spring bonsai exhibition, Graceful Perseverance, which features a rotating selection of 80 trees designed to reflect those found in nature’s most challenging conditions. Julian Velasco, curator of BBG’s C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum, will give tours of the exhibition during the evening and speak on the art and science of bonsai.
