With harvest season upon us, the Children’s Garden has a bounty of vegetables and flowers just waiting to be picked—and there’s still time to sign up for fall programs. Summer participants worked to make sure the plots were filled with root veggies, beans, peas, greens, and other yummy cool weather crops. Not only that, warm weather crops are still producing like gangbusters! Tomatoes came in a little late this season, which means September will be spent preparing and eating salsas, bruschettas, pastas, and sauces. We'll keep harvesting beautiful red, ripe tomatoes until the weather cools to the point where they can no longer ripen. Then it's fried green tomato time! At that time, we'll also have a bounty of lettuces, spinach greens, arugula, and other salad fixings. There's nothing as good as a salad harvested just before eaten.
Participants will also find plenty of gardening work to be done—weeding the plots, thinning and replanting root veggies, and lots of winter prep as the cooler weather comes. Craft projects and nature exploration will also be included. See our class registration page to learn more!
