Lovely flowers in a wide variety of colors and forms bloom throughout summer along Belle’s Brook. Many were recently planted during the renovation of the Plant Family Collection and the completion of the Water Conservation Project and are blooming for the first time. This native prairie plant has tiny white, tube-shaped flowers that start to bloom first at the bottom of the long flower spikes and then work their way up.

A summer-blooming bulb, this European native has egg-shaped flower clusters that start out green and become burgundy.

A member of the buckwheat family, red bistort has deep pink flower spikes which remain in bloom through late summer.
