Description
Rock quarries are disturbed habitats where plants must grow in the cracks of rocks on nearby vertical rock faces.

Occurrence
Quarry near Sutherland Pond
There is a small quarry on the north side of Sutherland Pond where stone was removed to build the reservoir dams. The exposed rock is gneiss.
Ecology
Quarries have little soil, and little water is available to plants. They are similar to rock outcrops and cliffs and successional sites but are often not as exposed to sunlight.
