Acknowledgements
Many people helped with the fieldwork at Black Rock Forest. From the forest staff, I especially want to thank Dr. William Schuster, Director, Mr. John Brady, Forest Manager, Ms. Barbara Brady, Office Manager, and Mr. Jack Karnig, Director Emeritus, for their help. The Black Rock Forest Consortium helped with research grants to study the flora of the forest. Mr. Marc Blain, Mr. Kevin Warner, and Mr. Paul Harwood helped with the vegetation studies.
Dr. Peter Nelson, Mr. Basil Shanahan, Mr. Ainsley Caldwell, and Dr. Steven E. Clemants read the manuscript and offered valuable help. I am very grateful to them for the time and care they took in their reviews.
