Black Rock Forest

Since 1990, Brooklyn Botanic Garden has conducted research at the Black Rock Forest in Cornwall, New York. Our work has focused on the plants and vegetation of the forest and how these have changed over the past hundred years.

Black Rock Forest [official site] is located 60 miles north of New York City in the Hudson Highlands. Preserved as a natural area, it contains more than 3,700 acres of upland woods and wetlands. It is used as a field station by members of the Black Rock Forest Consortium and is open to the public for limited recreation.
