Helleborus 'Royal Heritage'

P10. Helleborus 'Royal Heritage'
Hellebore, Lenten rose (cultivar)

Hardiness: USDA Zones 4–9
Partial shade
Average soil
1½–2 feet tall

Blooming from February to April, this easy-care, deer-resistant hellebore brings a welcome splash of floral color to the early-spring garden and terrific evergreen foliage year-round. Not a cultivar but a seedling strain of a superior form, this plant will hybridize with other hellebores in the garden, increasing the array of nodding, cup-shaped flowers speckled or streaked in a variety of colors from white to pink, red, maroon, and near black. The glossy, deeply cut dark-green leaves are held in a tight, bushy clump. Grow 'Royal Heritage' in organically rich, alkaline, medium-wet, well-drained soil and partial shade.
