Nursery Sources
Where to buy good plants can be a challenge. The best place to start is with local and regional nurseries and garden centers. In addition to having plants available for immediate inspection and purchase, they have staff who can answer questions about growing plants locally.
However, for less common plants it's often necessary to buy from mail-order sources as well as plant society and public garden sales. The following is a list of retail mail-order companies, many of which charge a small fee for their catalogs. This list is by no means complete and is not an endorsement of these companies nor a criticism of any not mentioned. The Andersen Horticultural Library's Source List of Plants and Seeds (1996, University of Minnesota) is an excellent listing of sources for individual plants.
