Carolina or Canadian Poplar (Populus x canadensis)

A naturally occurring hybrid between the Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra) and the eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides), the Carolina poplar is distributed throughout most of the U.S. A fast grower, the Carolina poplar is often planted on open ground as a windbreak, and its wood is harvested for carpentry and fuel.
