Quercus robur can easily live to a ripe old age of 700, and one specimen in Lithuania is thought to be 1,500 years old. The predominant tree in the original forests of England, this monumental oak has inspired legends: King Arthur's Round Table was made of its wood, and Robin Hood sought refuge among the English oaks of Sherwood Forest.
