Garden Apprentice Program Three Season Intern
Description: The Garden Apprentice Program is an innovative youth development program launched in 2004 at Brooklyn Botanic Garden for eighth through twelfth grade students. The GAP Intern works closely with the GAP staff to develop and lead weekly lessons for students on horticulture in the Children's Garden, supervise students in their work placements throughout the Garden, assist with recruitment and selection of new students, and develop and lead summer training program for new and returning students. Internship includes 8 Adult Education evening classes in the Horticulture Certificate Program.
This position is focused on developing future leaders in the field of horticultural and environmental education as well as youth development.
Number of Positions Available: 1.
Duration: Mid-March–November 2008
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 9am–4:30pm
Compensation: $10.00/hour.
Qualifications: Minimum completion of college classes with a commitment to hands-on education, youth development principles, urban agriculture, plants and the environment. Preferences will be given to applicants that have experience working with adolescents.

Garden Apprentice Program Summer Instructor
Description: The Garden Apprentice Program is an innovative youth development program launched in 2004 at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The GAP summer instructor works closely with the GAP staff to develop and lead training workshops for incoming 8th and 9th grade students, supervises these students in their work placements and develops and leads weekly lessons for these students on horticulture in the Children's Garden.
This position is focused on developing future leaders in the field of horticultural and environmental education as well as youth development.
Number of Positions Available: 1
Duration: 11 weeks, June to August
Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Compensation: $10.00/hour.
