Internships at BBG

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Internship Information

Since 1910, Brooklyn Botanic Garden has sought to expand the human knowledge of plants in a beautiful and inspirational setting. Horticultural display, education, and scientific research have been important missions of the Garden since its inception.

The internship programs provide opportunities to gain valuable experience working with professional horticulturists, educators, and scientists in a botanically rich and diverse 52-acre garden within the country's largest metropolis.

BBG Internship Program Objective

Provide hands-on experience training in a botanic garden with professionals.

Goals for All Interns

BBG is unique in offering many different types of paid internships. These range in length from three months to one year, with varying start and end dates throughout the year. The age requirements for the internships range from high school students to post-college. While some of the internships might require an interest in environmental science or familiarity with local plants, some do not require any prior gardening experience.

Interns have access to BBG's living collection of over 10,000 plant types and almost 250,000 herbarium specimens. Other resources include the Gardener's Resource Center, Science Library and Rare Book Room. Some of the best resources, though, are our professional staff of gardeners, educators, and scientists.

Housing is not available through BBG, but we are able to offer a list of potential student accommodations and resources.

The opportunity to train with botanic garden professionals in a globally respected public garden and to learn about horticulture and the importance of plants in an urban setting is what makes an internship at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is truly a unique experience.
