Brooklyn, NY—November 13, 2007—Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) announces its Second Annual Lunar New Year Celebration & Flower Market, on Sunday, February 3 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. What better way to usher in 4705—the year of the Rat—than with an exciting program of Asian entertainment and a special cut-flower market featuring plants used in the Lunar New Year celebrations of China, Korea, and Vietnam?
At BBG, generations will delight in a full day dedicated to the dazzling Lunar New Year Celebration. This is surely a feast for the senses—featuring an exhibit of Chinese folk art rendered by peasant women that was recently shown at the Beijing Museum and guided tours of the Garden's plant collections, offered in English and Chinese, that highlight plants that are culturally significant to the Lunar New Year celebration in China, Korea, and Vietnam. Adults and children can learn even more about these Asian cultures through plants by participating in special hands-on workshops inspired by plants symbolic of the Lunar New Year.
To delight audiences of all ages, BBG has secured a spectacular lineup of traditional dancers, musicians, martial arts experts, and acrobatic artists, including the visually dramatic Red Silk Dancers and their "Silk and Sword" performance!
With so much fun activity and entertainment, visitors will look forward to taking a break to enjoy a selection of Garden-prepared Asian boxed lunches and entrees in the Garden's Café.
