Education Partnerships
For the ninth year, BBG served as a partner in the innovative Brooklyn Cultural Adventures Program (BCAP), a full-day summer camp for children ages 9 through 12 sponsored by the Heart of Brooklyn: A Cultural Partnership. Heart of Brooklyn is dedicated to promoting Brooklyn's leading cultural institutions around Grand Army Plaza as "must see" destinations, welcoming diverse visitors from Brooklyn and beyond. The partnership contributes to Brooklyn's renaissance and the strong future of its communities by making these historic treasures more visible and accessible through programming initiatives, economic development, and community outreach. The six BCAP partners are Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park Alliance, and Prospect Park Zoo.
This year, BCAP served 144 children and offered two programs organized under the themes "Treasures in the Heart of Brooklyn" and "Food, Glorious Food." Families had the option of selecting either a two-week or a four-week session. BBG served as BCAP's base site and was also the site of a reunion for past participants, held over the Thanksgiving 2006 school break, with 45 children participating in the event. In March, BCAP was honored with a 2007 New York Life Foundation Award as one of six not-for-profit programs deemed exemplary "Safe Places to Learn and Grow" for children and youth.
